Map 2

Working with Pyramid of Arts, a local charity that runs arts activities for people with and without learning disabilities, we mapped the story of people with learning disabilities in Leeds to find out how people were treated in the past. This strand of the project was supported by Heritage Lottery Fund.

As part of our discussion, we asked people how they saw themselves and how they would like to be seen by others. You can see the results of this discussion in these portraits.

We also went exploring around the city – learning about the Leeds story at the City Museum, about the development of health and social care at the Thackray Medical Museum and looking at the work of other local artists at Leeds Art Gallery

On the wall in the museum toilets, someone has written, “I love babs. I love babs.” Poor guy. I hope he finds the courage to tell her.
