A Magical Mystery Musical Tour
Over the course of the project we have worked with a number of different artists to map people’s journeys through the city. One of these artists is historian and storyteller Joe Williams. Joe’s work often involves exploring the African presence in Yorkshire through the sharing and retelling of African and Caribbean stories from Yorkshire History. As part of his work he runs a series of walks through the city of Leeds that take place on the second Saturday of the month between June and October. There’s more information about the walks and about Joe’s other work here: http://heritagecornerleeds.wix.com/heritage-corner
As part of the project, we asked Joe to map some of the stories that he has been researching, concerning the presence of black people in Victorian Leeds. With the help of our Friends at ELFM, we have turned this into a sound piece – A Magical Mystery Musical Tour. Part of this piece (along with Joe himself) appeared in the Labyrinth exhibition that we created in the Central Library in May and you can listen to the whole piece by clicking here.
